Automation and robotics graduate education developing for women in India

As India develops into a center for automotive component manufacturing, there is a growing market for advanced degrees. One university that is taking advantage of this is the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.

Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women has launched a new MTech programme – MTech in robotics and automation – with a focus on developing interdisciplinary skills among women engineers.

“India is emerging as a major auto component manufacturing hub in the global market and is growing at the rate of 30% per year. This programme enables students to gain expertise in the next generation of robots, industrial robots and automation systems, thus facilitating their application and adoption in the manufacturing sector. The programme will also ensure the placement of students in various companies. It has been started with a vision to increase the versatility, autonomy and rapid retasking of intelligent robots and automation technologies for smart manufacturing and applications,” says Nupur Prakash, vice-chancellor , Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.

The two-year program is designed to cover specialized classes in automation and robotics and geared toward working for engineering and automotive companies because of the large amount of robotics and automated technologies used in their manufacturing facilities.
